Transmission Cell Heating Jacket
The Transmission Cell Heating Jacket is a low cost solution for performing transmission analysis of liquid, solid or gaseous samples at above-ambient temperatures to 90°C. The optional demountable cells containing the sample is simply inserted within the Heating Jacket. Using a customer supplied thermo-circulating bath; connection to the Heating Jacket is accommodated with 1/4" tubing. The heated liquid circulates and surrounds the sample cell. The optional demountable sample cells have a provisional thermocouple port to introduce a Type K thermocouple for accurate temperature monitor and control at the sample interface. The jacket assembly includes a 2" wide x 3" long backplate.

The Heating Jacket is ideal for phase transition studies, temperature dependent absorption analysis, reaction kinetics, oxidation and polymerization studies.

Options available include liquid sealed and demountable cell configurations, solids cell, flow through cells, 13mm KBr pellet cell, AgCl mini-mull cell, 25mm mull cell and a variety of window materials to assemble within these cells. Scroll below for impression and order details.

High pressure cells are available for liquid and gas samples analysis under high pressure (2000 psi and 5000 psi options). The useful temperature range for the high pressure cells is from -15°C to 180°C. The cells are fabricated from Stainless Steel for chemical resistance and durability with two 1/16” Stainless Steel flow tubes brazed to the cell body. A choice of fixed pathlengths include 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 5.0 or 10mm. The transmission windows are permanently sealed in the cell housing using perfluoroelastomer o-rings. Available optical materials include UV Quartz Sapphire and Zinc Selenide.

The high pressure cells can be used at ambient temperature when mounted on the standard 3" x 2" backplate. For heated or sub-ambient applications, the cells listed below can also be used with the -190°C to 250°C Variable Temperature Cell and the 250°C Solid and Liquid Cell.

REFLEX Analytical offers two different solids cell holders for use with the Transmission Cell Heating Jacket. Part number 20600 has a fixed size aperture of 10mm and hence solid samples can be analyzed from 12mm to 28mm diameter and up to 3mm thick. Part number 20610 consists of outer and inner cell threaded bodies and three pairs of pressure plates. The varying aperture sizes of the pressure plates enable samples with a diameter of 12 - 17mm, 17 - 22mm and 22 - 30mm and up to 8mm thick to be analyzed. A K-type NiCr/NiAl or T-type Cu/CuNi thermocouple can be inserted in the cell's thermocouple port to monitor sample temperatures. The solids cell holders can operate without transmission windows if desired. Select part number when ordering.

Liquid Transmission Cells
REFLEX Analytical offers sealed and demountable liquid cells for use with the Transmission Cell Heating Jacket. Each version is supplied as a completely assembled cell with windows and a spacer at the pathlength of your choice. Sealed cells have a lead spacer and lead top gasket and all components are permanently amalgamated together. Demountable cells have a teflon spacer and teflon top gasket and as such allow for windows and spacer pathlengths to be interchangeable.

Each static version stainless steel cell assembly provides for a 25 x 10mm clear aperture and includes a front plate with inlet/outlet plugs and thermocouple port, a back plate, front gasket, rear gasket, threaded luer fitting, flushing tube, syringe needle, (2) teflon washers, a 3/23" Allen key, lead or teflon spacer (specify 0.025mm, 0.05mm, 0.1mm, 0.2mm, 0.5mm or 1.0mm) and a choice of transmission window materials. The transmission materials available include but are not limited to NaCl Sodium Chloride, KBr Potassium Bromide, CaF2 Calcium Fluoride, BaF2 Barium Fluoride, and ZnSe Zinc Selenide. A K-type NiCr/NiAl or T-type Cu/CuNi thermocouple can be inserted in the cell's thermocouple port to monitor sample temperatures.

Optional flow through cells have an alternative front plate with 1/16" o.d. stainless steel tubing brazed to the sample port positions. The flow tubes are assembled with Swagelok connection fittings such that other liquid delivery type tubing can be connected to the cell front plate. It is recommended that this flow kit plate is supplied attached to the sealed cells. In this fashion, the flow plate is sealed to the front lead gasket and sealed window assembly. The threaded luer and flushing tube cannot be attached to the flow cell front plate.
