The pellet dies are commonly used with our series of laboratory presses
. Each pellet die is precision fabricated from high quality hardened 440C stainless steel. The assembly includes a die chamber, two sets of anvils(4), a plunger, acrylic alignment nest and acrylic sample extraction ring sleeve to facilitate sample removal. The die chamber dimensions for pellet die sizes up to 16mm are 32mm H x 35mm O. D. with each anvil measuring 5.50mm thickness (two anvils are used for pellet fabrication) and 50.80mm H x 63.50mm O. D. for pellet die sizes up to 40mm with each anvil measuring 11mm thickness (two anvils are used for pellet fabrication). Add 76.20mm for the extraction ring and plunger then account for the volume of sample matrix to calculate the overall nominal height of each die assembly.
REFLEX Analytical recommends the review of the chamber height to confirm there is adequate height to fabricate a pellet to the desired pellet thickness. If required, the chamber height and plunger height can be adjusted accordingly. Offer request for quotation and indicate the required height. Furthermore, please assure there sufficient height between the top and bottom press rams.
Tungsten carbide anvils are optional and ideal for hard or abrasive powdered sample materials which may tend to mar the surface of stainless steel anvils. Notably, the tungsten carbide transverse rupture strength is 500,000 psi and hardened Stainless Steel is 100,000 psi. Therefore theoretically, tungsten carbide offers 5x the compression strength when compared to hardened stainless steel.
