Fiber Optic Gas Probe

Fiber Optic Gas Probe
The Fiber Optic Gas Probe is useful for remote gas analysis in the 1.5 - 18µm wavelength range. The hexagonal fiber bundle design incorporates a single, large diameter sending fiber in the probe's center interfaced with the instrument's source, while 7 smaller diameter returning fibers surround the center fiber and extend back to the instrument's detector. The fiber material available for spectral analysis to cover the wavelength range include either Chalcogenide for performance from 1.5 - 6µm or Silver Halide from 4 - 18µm.

This double pass transmission technique uses a collimating lens to enable efficient coupling with the spectrophotometer's beam along with the efficient collection of IR radiation reflected back by the fiber probe's mirror. Due to much lower mid-IR attenuation in gases, the collimated beam design of a double pass (or multiple pass) gas cell is necessary to achieve greater signal sensitivity. This design is easily realized when the collimating lens objective and reflecting mirror are assembled to a customized pathlength that is dependent upon the application. Available pathlengths range from 10 - 200mm. Fiber bundle lengths are typically up to 2 meters although longer lengths are available upon request.

The Fiber Optic Gas Probe is compatible with all FTIR spectrophotometers with SMA terminated optical couplers or spectrophotometer interface.
